About us
The idea
The idea for Bedandbreakfastscotland Limited began in late 2000.
After reviewing what was available in terms of websites advertising member accommodation we noticed there were several static websites offering no more than a name, address and telephone number. We decided to offer something a little different where we could allow our members a little more control over their listing.
Work on the website for bedandbreakfastscotland.co.uk got under way around May-June 2001 with a very small dedicated team of 2, one working flat out the other one discussing it. The website was completed and ready for testing by early 2002.
Bedandbreakfastscotland Limited was incorporated July 2002 with the site officially launched on 29th August 2002. Progress was steady, but soon word of mouth and some hard work with search engine optimisation helped us gain momentum.
We soon reached 100 members, then 200, 300, 400 + and still growing towards 500 making us the largest independent accommodation directory for paid members, working exclusively for Scottish Accommodation Providers.
We did not stop there; we continued to develop the application, adding more features to benefit our members in their quest to fill beds and their potential guests to search without complication.
Since launch we have also carried out both member and user surveys and where possible implemented some of their ideas to our site.
We are constantly looking for new ways to improve our site and ask that anyone with any clever ideas on improvement contact us. We will look at all suggestions.
Latest developments
Our very latest development involved us moving to a new dedicated server, with a complete overhaul of our original site, again adding features to assist our members keep track of conversion rates, email requests, see how many times their telephone number is requested and the number of times their listing has been viewed.
At the end of each season members will be able to go into their account and see how many email enquiries they converted and if they did not convert the reason why. Like we said before we like to get value for money and look to provide our members with the same.
Our team
- David Gilroy - Managing Director
David has run various successful businesses for around 20 years. His last, a building business was passed on to his business partner in order to give Bedandbreakfastscotland Limited his full attention. David is responsible for the day to day running of the company. - Rob Docherty - Accounts Manager & Company Secretary
Robert is responsible for customer accounts and all the day to day functions of the accounts department. - Kevin Ross - Technical Director
Kevin is a BSc graduate in Software Engineering with nearly 10 years experience in the IT industry and is responsible for all technical operations and direction within the company.
Integral parts of his job include day to day server management, research & development of all company products and technical input into marketing strategy. - Alison & Lindsay - Website administrators
